Position Tekla Detailing Coordinator, Structural Steel

Duties / Responsibilities
    Key responsibilities will include:
  • Study customer drawings and specifications to get a thorough understanding of the complete scope of work.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and the Production Team to confirm we are fulfilling project requirements and delivering a quality product.
  • Analyze Engineer’s connection details for completeness, ensure they meet project requirements, and the connection details are best designed to suit fabrication processes.
  • Check that all shop drawing submittals meet proper drafting standards and guidelines, confirm all project requirements are met, and verify the entire scope has been fulfilled.
  • Coordinate with Document Control to make certain all submissions are properly filed and distributed to the appropriate divisions.
  • Coordinate all project RFI’s between detailer and customer to ensure details required to efficiently respond are clearly outlined and responses are returned within contractual timelines. RFI coordination also includes updating the RFI log and communicating to the Project Manager any delays experienced due to excessive RFI counts or delayed response.
  • Support the Project Manager in the development of sequences and creation of Detailing schedules. Chair weekly meetings with the detailing subcontractors to ensure schedules are updated and maintained, delays or impacts are logged, and changes agreed to are all communicated with the Project Manager.
  • Participate in Execution Plan and Constructability Study development and review. The ideal candidate will have:
  • Understanding of structural and plate work steel fabrication, design/connections, modularization, and erection practices.
  • Knowledge of welding processes, welding equipment, and metallurgy.
  • Ability to read and interpret general arrangements and fabrication drawings as well as visualize and maintain a mental picture of the project from reading the drawings.
  • Computer literate with experience in all Microsoft Applications (specifically – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project), Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect for checking models, and Tekla EPM for document control.
  • Understanding of the steel fabrication codes: CSA S16, CSA W59, CSA W47.1, AWS D1.1, ISO 9001.
  • Understanding of Advanced Fabrication Work Packaging and project execution planning.
  • Understanding of project scheduling, resource loading, and workforce planning.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and its application for preparing work packages for the most effective routing and fabrication.
  • Highly effective communicator who can foster and maintain good relationships with the team.

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a college or university degree preferred, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 8+ years of structural steel detailing including drawings, modelling and checking experience required.
  • Previous shop detailing management experience will be considered an asset.

Pay Range 75 to 80 K + Benefits
