Position Senior Automation Specialist - Manitoba

Education
    • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Automation, or a related field ; will also consider Diploma or experience in lieu • Minimum of 5 years post graduate related experience in a manufacturing / production environment • Hands-on programming experience using relevant code languages • Experience using relevant tool suites • Experience managing software development lifecycle • Must be able to create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up • Experience developing and writing work instructions • Ability to prioritize activities and deliver projects on time and within budget • Excellent coding skills • Extensive knowledge of agile methodologies • Strong team-building skills • Written and oral communication skills • Computer literate
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Responsible for designing, developing, and testing solutions for industrial machines and systems
  • Directing and participating in designing activities, programming (code development), monitoring, and evaluating system performance
  • Designing and implementing new programs and features
  • Prepare functional descriptions of process controls and sequence of operations, including collecting and documenting user’s requirements
  • Development and support of PLC and HMI programs for use on industrial equipment
  • Integration of specialized hardware and software into manufacturing systems to enhance automation and control with an emphasis on efficiency
  • Commission and troubleshoot robotic applications, troubleshooting of process problems and complete quality improvements as required to maintain part standards of quality
  • Assist customers and/or co-workers with electrical / programming issues ; assist in training of staff on electronic equipment
  • Responsible to keep proper documentation of changes to the programs, maintains and upgrades PLC software
  • Analyze, record and chart documentation required for maintenance records and projects
  • Service, maintain, repair, install and test new or existing equipment and verify conformance to specifications
  • Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies
  • Responsible for completion of necessary paperwork including work orders / timesheets / log board entries / line book revisions as required in a timely manner
  • PLC / HMI / SCADA programming, including testing, start-up and commissioning on-site
  • Provide telephone support as necessary
  • Play an active role in testing equipment prior to shipment and also provide remote access support to sites that have been commissioned
  • Ensure all documents are completed thoroughly and accurately
  • Computers, networking equipment set-up and configuration
  • Control philosophy development, conceptual design, automation planning
  • Participate in conception and analysis and develop logical and physical specifications
  • Perform changes in on-going applications development
  • Train client personnel on systems and operations
  • Produce wiring diagrams, assembly diagrams and layout drawings used in manufacturing
  • Oversee wiring of electrical panels and PLCs and testing of program and equipment functions
  • Assist in training of service, sales and production teams
  • Apply best practices and standard operating procedures
  • Deploy new products and participate on installations ; analyze data to recommend / coordinate install of new systems or modification of existing systems
  • Build and integrate automated systems that run devices and networks, especially in regards to database
  • Conduct electrical hardware and software design validation and testing
  • Consult with engineering staff to evaluate software-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements
  • Confer with project managers to obtain information on limitations or capabilities
  • Provide expertise on resolution of problems through monitoring of system performance, applying mathematics and statistics, modify software to fix errors/bugs, conduct field investigations, work with customers on issues with software system design and maintenance
  • Prepare reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status and maintain information in an organized, up-to-date manner
  • Participate in department training programs
  • Demonstrate safe behavior conforming to code requirements and internal policies
  • Work with clients and cross-functional departments internally to communicate project status and proposals; communicate key project data as needed
  • Follow organizational Safety Management System standards and adhere to Continuous Improvement Program, leading by example
  • Other relevant duties as they arise

Pay Range up to $125K dep. on exper. + reloc. assist.
