Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • P.Eng. designation OR P.Eng. eligible status with APEO
  • 10 yrs+ progressive experience in automotive industry
  • 3 years minimum program management experience in metal forming / stamping
  • Very familiar with automotive manufacturing processes, Synchronous Manufacturing, DFMEA, PFMEA, VA/VE, QFD, TOPS, DOE, Continuous Improvement Techniques, JIT, working knowledge of OHSA, WSIB current legislation
  • Exceptional time keeping skills, organizational and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Hand-on experience and good understanding of APQP, QS 9000, FMEA, FEA, VE/VA, DOE, Advanced GD&T and continuous improvement tools
  • Track record of successful program launches
  • Ability to review and guide all aspects of product development and program management
  • Good skills in conducting customer presentations and directing group discussions on both technical and managerial issues
  • Ability to travel outside Canada to customer sites where required
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Exercise managerial control and direction over the day-to-day activities of the Engineering Development
  • Manage all aspects of product design and development – including but not limited to: design reviews, manufacturing feasibility and process reviews, tooling and gauging reviews, as well as facility planning
  • Direct a staff of Program Managers and Product Engineers in new product launches
  • Review program open issues, oversee program status and assist in supplier development
  • Act as liaison with customers and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Ensure that product and tool design will meet customer specifications and market requirements at the lowest possible cost
  • Schedule design and development required to achieve desired ends within budget and on time
  • Responsible for feasibility and accuracy of all pertinent drawings and parts lists
